What we do.
The Sparacio Foundation partners in community-rooted work—staying close to people and places through flexible, trust-based approaches that allow support to adapt, innovation to emerge, and understanding to deepen through relationship.
In practice, this may take many forms—shaped by partners, context, and timing—ranging from flexible operating support to targeted investments that support learning, capacity, and long-term impact.
Cruelty Prevention and the Benefit of Animals: Partnering to safeguard vulnerable animals and strengthen the human–animal bond through education, medical care, and community-rooted approaches that prevent cruelty and promote long-term wellbeing.
Christian/Catholic Organizations: Partnering with Christian- and Catholic-affiliated nonprofits whose work centers education and community engagement (not necessarily religious), particularly in underserved communities and in alignment with the Foundation’s other focus areas.
Environment: Supporting place-based stewardship of wilderness areas, waterways, and wildlife corridors to protect biodiversity and land connectivity, while expanding environmental education and community-engaged conservation.
Midwifery: Advancing Dorothea Lang’s vision of midwifery as a stand-alone profession by partnering with organizations that support education, advocacy, and community-rooted maternal health, with particular attention to underserved communities in the U.S. and internationally.
Native American Indians: Focusing on cultural sustainability through language, arts, and education—partnering primarily with Native-led organizations, and with aligned institutions that support Native communities—through place-based approaches that also advance healing, peace, and justice.
Palestinian / Middle East: Partnering with Palestinian-led organizations and U.S.-based groups engaged in education, nonviolent peacebuilding, and public learning, recognizing the role of both local leadership and U.S. engagement in advancing long-term pathways toward justice and peace.
Where?
We like to work with not-for-profits who collaborate with others creating greater impact for each Sparacio cause. We predominantly focus in geographic areas related to John Sparacio and our board members, as well as international areas related to our specific causes.
Who?
We currently only fund not-for-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organizations doing work that aligns with Sparacio causes.
We have a very strong preference for making grants to grass-roots, small, and mid-sized organizations.
We seek to empower excluded and marginalized populations.
We support capacity building in organizations that can benefit greatly from modest contributions.
