Current Focus Areas
What we fund.
We award general operating support, capacity building, project specific program support, challenge/matching grant, capital support, seed grants (grassroots), within each of our grantmaking interest areas. We like to think innovatively in ways to impact our causes. (See list below).
Cruelty Prevention and the Benefit of Animals: We advocate for responsible connections between humans and animals, aiming to safeguard the vulnerable. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for animals by preventing cruelty and ensuring they receive essential care. We achieve this through education, medical assistance, shelter, foster care, and nurturing the human-animal bond.
Christian Charities and Christian Schools: We support Christian nonprofits and Christian Schools (Protestant and Catholic), for charitable and educational purposes, rather than for religious purposes. We like to partner with nonprofits who overlap with our other causes, as well as those working with underserved communities, nationally and internationally.
Environment: We seek to preserve and restore habitat /wildlife conservation, particularly for the protection of wilderness areas, as well as water connected to these areas. We focus to protect/restore inherently “wild” areas and wildlife corridors that maintain biodiversity/ connectivity; to provide environmental educational opportunities; and to support communities typically underrepresented in environmental programs/projects.
Midwifery: We seek to work towards the vision of Dorothea Lang, advocating for midwifery as a “stand alone” profession, i.e. “primary and reproductive healthcare for women,” and supporting the advancement of the profession of midwifery in the US, as well as internationally. We focus on educational opportunities, leadership in policy/advocacy, in direct services, and with those who support midwifery/maternal health in underserved groups.
Native American Indians: We predominantly focus on children and youth education, and cultural sustainability through arts, language, and educational opportunities. However, we are open to other ways of supporting Native people in healing of peace & justice.
Palestinians: We support peace in the Holy Land, particularly embracing the cause of the Palestinians and nonviolent activism. We focus on cultural opportunities, educational opportunities, and direct services to support the Palestinians.
Where we fund.
We like to work with not-for-profits who collaborate with others creating greater impact for each Sparacio cause. We predominantly focus in geographic areas related to John Sparacio and our board members, as well as international areas related to our specific causes.
Who we fund.
We currently only fund not-for-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organizations doing work that aligns with our Mission and Sparacio causes.
We have a very strong preference for making grants to grass-roots, small, and mid-sized organizations.
We seek to empower excluded and marginalized populations.
We support capacity building in organizations that can benefit greatly from modest contributions.
The John J. and Frank Sparacio Foundation does not make grants to governmental institutions or individuals.
